from Birmingham were amongst the 70 who attended the first National organised by the , London on October 31st 1987. London, Manchester, Leeds, Leicester and Bristol were also represented.

The day held at Hampden Community Centre N1 included performances by African-American singer, Blackberrie and a host of workshops exploring Health: Safe Sex, mental Health and STD?s, Coming Out: Fears and Prejudice within the Black Community, Black and Lesbian and gay History, Spirituality: Religion and Rituals, positive images in the Educational system, Politics: Current affairs and Campaigning.
