Festival of Light
January 1964 to January 1970
A rightwing Christian campaigning organisation. Founded by Mary Whitehouse and also involving Cliff Richard, Malcolm Muggeridge and other leading religious people. Its objective was to re-assert traditional Christian values and overturn the liberal advances made during the 1960s and 70s, especially concerning homosexuality, abortion and 'family values'. The roots of the organisation can be traced to Mary Whitehouse's 1964 rally held in Birmingham Town Hall.
