Campaign for Homosexual Equality

The Campaign for Homosexual Equality (CHE) grew out of the North Western branch of the Homosexual Law Reform Society and became a network of local branches nationally, with the aim of law reforms recommended in the Wolfenden report. After decriminalisation in 1967 the group turned its focus to fighting for equality. The group named itself ‘The Campaign for Homosexual Equality’ in 1971; it was previously the Committee for Homosexual equality. The first West Midlands branch of CHE was founded in Tettenhall, Wolverhampton by Nick Stanley and his partner Karl.
