Early life
1942
Pam was born in 1943 in Kidderminster and adopted at
three weeks. Her adoptive parents lived in Quinton. Her mother was a
housewife, and father had his own furniture shop in Bearwood. Her
childhood was OK until her mother died when she was 7; her father had
only agreed to the adoption to save his marriage, and she didn?t really
get on with him. From then on she was a latchkey kid, and led quite an
independent life. Her brother, twelve years older, didn?t take kindly
to her arrival and they never gelled. She was a tomboy, very sporty, at
secondary school she was school swimming champion, played hockey and
badminton for the county. She was head girl, didn?t do a lot
academically, but did socially, helping the staff.
